Man Charged in Twin's 2007 Death

After more than four years, police arrested the twin brother –- and alleged partner in crime –- of a homicide victim.

Wael Ali, 23, was arrested Thursday in Marietta, Ga., where he now lives, on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the August 2007 death of Wasel Ali, Howard County police said.

On Aug. 22, the day Wasel Ali was reported missing, surveillance video shows the brothers leaving the Mall at Columbia after Wasel Ali was fired, police said. He had admitted his role in a theft scheme and implicated his brother. They went separate ways and exited opposite ends of the mall.

A short time later, Wael Ali called a friend saying his brother was missing but he told friends he had already searched the area where Wasel Ali's body was found five days later.

Earlier on Aug. 22, police served a search warrant on the Alis’ home in connection with their arrest five days earlier in Arlington, Va. They were accused of possession of a stolen handgun and impersonating police officers.

Wasel Ali’s death was the result of a neck injury, according to the autopsy.
