Man Charged in Crash That Killed Volunteer Firefighter

A Maryland man has been charged with manslaughter nearly five months after he was involved in a crash that killed a young Charles County volunteer firefighter.

Darren Loyce Windsor was taken into custoday Monday afternoon. He has been charged with negligent manslaughter by auto, negligent homicide by auto and driving while under the influence. 

Authorities say Windsor was driving his Chevrolet Silverado north on Maryland Route 425 on April 28 when he struck a Kia Soul traveling southbound. The driver of the Kia, Autumn Marie Jenkins, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jenkins was a five-year firefighter/EMT with the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department.

Windsor is being held at the Charles County Detention Center.
