Man Charged With Kidnapping After Driving Off With Girlfriend's Son, Police Say

The couple got into a fight, then the suspect drove off with the child in the backseat, police say

A man accused of kidnapping his girlfriend's 19-month-old boy faces charges after the child was returned safely to his family.

Police arrested Erick Aleman-Hernandez, 22, on kidnapping charges, WMATA says.

The mother and her boyfriend, who is not the child's father, were arguing Tuesday night in the kiss-and-ride area at the Branch Avenue Metro Station. They were inside a car.

Officers say the boyfriend told the mother to get out. Before the mother could get the child out, Aleman-Hernandez allegedly sped off.

Metro Transit and Prince George's police swarmed a residence where they had found Aleman-Hernandez' car but weren't able to find him or the child. Eventually, officers established communication with Aleman-Hernandez, who agreed to surrender to police in District Heights.
