A woman who was carjacked in front of her home last month believes her car was used in the shooting death of a 10-year-old girl in D.C. just weeks later.
The victim, who did not want to be identified, said she had just pulled up to her Lanham, Maryland, home on July 1 when her attacker shoved a gun in her face, pistol-whipped her and told her to get out of the car.
"I work hard for my stuff, so what makes somebody think that they can just come take something that I worked my butt off to get?" she said.
Two weeks later, four men jumped out of that same car and opened fire in a D.C. neighborhood, killing Makiyah Wilson.
Wilson, who had recently complete fourth grade, was heading home from an ice cream truck when she was shot.
As the carjacking victim recovered from a wound to the back of her head, she was shocked to see her stolen car in TV news reports. She said Wilson was the same age as her own daughter.
The woman called authorities to report that her car had been used in the shooting. Police have not confirmed that the car used in the carjacking was also used in the shooting.
The car, an Infiniti sedan, was found in Oxon Hill days after the shooting in the 300 block of 53rd Street NE on July 16. Jones, of Lanham, has not been charged in Wilson's death. The investigation is ongoing.
On July 25, Kevin Eugene Jones, 20, was charged with carjacking the woman, court documents show. Jones has not been charged in Wilson's death.
