Man Shot Two Dogs to Death in Va.: Police

A Virginia man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say he shot two German Shepherds to death.

The owner of the dogs reported "Zoey" and "Maddie" missing from their Nokesville home on Nov. 6. Two days later, the owner found 5-month-old Zoey dead in a wooded area of the property.

Maddie was found dead the next day.

Both dogs died from gunshot related injuries, according to investigators.

Police say they identified 65-year-old Charles Lee Peele III as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. Peele turned himself into police on Tuesday.

He has been charged with two counts each of felony animal cruelty and reckless handling of a firearm.

Police have not commented on a motive in the case.
