Va. Man Arrested in Anti-McCain Vandalism Case

Case not treated as hate crime

The man responsible for spray painting anti-John McCain messages on homes and businesses in Gainesville turned himself in Thursday, Prince William County police said.

Daniel Marion Jackson, 23, of Gainesville, was charged with 21 counts of misdemeanor destruction of property, according to police.

A total of 12 houses, seven businesses, a church and a sign were vandalized.

Some of the writings included profane language, the numbers 666 and a pentagram. 

The vandalism did not meet the definition of a hate crime, according to police.

Jackson was being held without bond and has a scheduled court date of Dec. 3, police said.
