Md. Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After More Than 25 Years

The Prince George's County Sheriff's Office says a man wanted for an attempted murder in 1987 has been arrested in California and was returned to Maryland on Monday.

Authorities say Mark McNabb forced his way into a Seat Pleasant home on Nov. 11, 1987, seeking someone who was visiting. Police say McNabb and the visitor exchanged gunfire, and McNabb was struck.

In 1988, Prince George's County police obtained a warrant charging McNabb with assault with the intent to murder.

Sheriff's deputies say they learned in September that McNabb was being detained in Los Angeles on an alleged traffic violation. Authorities say McNabb fought extradition, claiming he was not the man named in the warrant.

The Sheriff's Office says McNabb was identified by the scar left by the gunshot in 1987.
