Man Arrested After Standoff at Marina

44-year-old man awaiting assault charges

A man is in custody after a standoff with police at a popular marina.

John Watson, 44, of Northern Virginia, was arrested at around 2 a.m. Saturday morning and transported to Alexandria Jail.

Park Police say they received a call around 6:00 p.m. Friday that a man, believed to be Watson, fired shots from a boat docked at the Belle Haven Marina in Alexandria.

When police arrived, Watson allegedly jumped from the boat into a dingy and then made his way out to a sailboat anchored about 100 feet into the Potomac River.

Park Police spent several hours trying to make contact with Watson, and eventually took him into custody without incident.

Police haven’t said what led to the shooting or what Watson was shooting at. He is currently waiting arraignment on assault charges.
