A man was charged with raping a woman in his car outside a bar in Silver Spring, Maryland, and police say there could be more victims because the suspect is a former ride-share driver.

Police arrested 26-year-old Oluwakayode Adewole Adebusuyi in Fairfax, Virginia, on Saturday.

The investigation started a week earlier, when a woman was found crying in the middle of Clarendon Road in Bethesda just before midnight on Saturday, Aug. 24. The woman said she was raped.

Detectives say the woman said she had been at a bar in Silver Spring when she started to feel nauseous. She said the suspect was in the bar with a mutual friend of hers and offered to let her sleep in his Toyota sedan parked outside.

She accepted the offer and fell asleep in his car, but eventually woke up when he came to the car and started raping her, Montgomery County Police said.

The suspect then drove away from the bar with the woman still inside the car, according to police.

The woman said she repeatedly asked him to let her out of the car, but he refused. She managed to get out of the car while it was on Clarendon Road and she screamed for help, police said. Residents nearby called police.

Detectives identified Adebusuyi as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant on Aug. 27 to charge him with rape, assault and false imprisonment.

Adebusuyi, of Willow Crescent Drive in Fairfax, was arrested Saturday in Fairfax and is in custody in pending extradition to Montgomery County.

Court records state that Adebusuyi was previously arrested in a different case in August 2018 and was charged with assault, fourth-degree sexual contact and false imprisonment. The records indicate the charges were dropped in what appears to a case in which the victim did not want to participate in prosecution.
