A man has been arrested after police say he exposed himself and made a lewd gesture toward an 8-year-old girl at a Home Depot in Woodbridge, Virginia.
Matthew Joseph Newton, 36, of Woodbridge, is charged with indecent exposure, taking indecent liberties with a child, assault and battery, police said.
Police were called to the store at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. According to police, Newton made an obscene gesture toward the girl and exposed himself.
A 47-year-old woman, who is related to the child, confronted the suspect and took a picture of him.
The suspect assaulted the woman and then ran away, police said.
Police searched the area but did not find the suspect. They later released the picture taken by the girl's relative. Several people called with tips, and police used that information to identify Newton.

Newton is being held without bond. His court date is scheduled for Oct. 27.
