Man Abducted, Forced to Withdraw Cash in Fairfax County

Police hope the photo of a vehicle believed to belong to one of the men involved will lead to a break in the case

The photo of a vehicle believed to belong to one of the men involved in the May 9 abduction of a 22-year-old resident has been released.

Officials hope the photo will lead to a break in the case of a Springfield man that was abducted and forced to make ATM withdrawals in Fairfax County early on Wednesday, May 9.

The 22-year-old man was leaving his home around 1:30 a.m. when two other men approached him, and one showed him a gun. They forced him into his own car and drove him to two banks, where they had him withdraw cash.

They later forced him into the trunk of his car, and cut him slightly with a knife before leaving him near Piedmont Street and Braddock Road in Annandale.

The victim lives on Cumberland Avenue, and people who live in the Springfield area told NBC4's Shomari Stone they are scared it could happen again.

"It's nerve-wracking," said one resident. "It's really sad, too, because it could happen to anyone. You just don't know when it's going to happen."

The photo was taken at Commerce Street Plaza of a vehicle possibly following the victim’s vehicle during the crime.
