Father, 2-Year-Old Son Killed in Gainesville Crash

A father and his toddler son died Monday after the father's car crashed into the back of a delivery truck in Northern Virginia, police say.

Daniel Sasha Velasco, 32, and Ronin William Velasco, 2, died after the father driving a 1999 Honda Accord crashed on Lee Highway near Heathcote Boulevard in Gainesville, Prince William County police said. 

Velasco was headed northbound on Lee Highway when he crashed into the truck, which was stopped at the intersection, police said. Officers arrived on the scene about 9:45 a.m. 

The father and son, who lived in Gainesville, were pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, a 46-year-old man from Stafford, Virginia, remained on the scene and was not injured. 

No information was released immediately on the cause of the crash. The medical examiner's office will conduct autopsies.
