Man Rams 4 Police Cars Trying to Avoid Arrest: Police

Anne Arundel county man charged with four counts of attempted murder after ramming police cars.

A Harwood, Md., man is facing four counts of attempted murder after he rammed four police cars while trying to avoid arrest, Anne Arundel County police said.

Officers were responding to a report of family violence yesterday at the home of William Richard Leapley Jr. when he jumped into his pickup truck and fled, police said. As he was leaving, he hit the first police vehicle. He then turned his truck around and struck a second police vehicle.  The third and fourth police vehicles were hit while Leapley was travelling south on Route 2.

He was finally arrested at a home in the 4500 block of South Polling House Road.

Three officers suffered minor injures and were taken to a local hospital. They have all been released.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, Leapley has been charged with attempted manslaughter by motor vehicle, first-degree assault and other related traffic offenses.
