Lynchburg Gets Lean, Residents Lose 12 Tons

Lynchburg is a lot leaner since former Mayor Joan Foster challenged residents to lose 12 tons this year.

Media outlets report that residents have already met that goal.

Foster issued the challenge in February to kick off the city's Live Healthy Lynchburg program. Now a councilwoman, Foster says she's happy that the goal has been met. But she says there's more to be done.

Leslie Hoglund with the Lynchburg Health Department says the weight loss challenge's success shows that the community can be rallied to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The program also includes a walking and running competition.
