Loudoun County Principal Killed by Car

Crash investigators with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office returned to White Water Drive in Sterling Friday, where elementary school principal Kathleen Hwang was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street Wednesday.

Hwang had been principal at Sanders Corner Elementary school since 2005.

Kathie Alonso says she decided to buy this house in Ashburn right next to the school and enroll her children when she first met Mrs. Hwang.

"Since that time she has been so engaged with the children, I can even begin to tell you what a heartbreak it's going to be for the school and how the community is grieving immediately when they heard the news," Alonso said.

Last year Kathleen Hwang participated in a News4 report on education focusing on a program called "Watch Dogs" designed to bring Dads into the school.

"Principal Kathleen Hwang sent her student home for the holiday with this message, have a safe and happy thanks giving. Parents say that her loss will be felt not only by the students but by the staff here."

"Very, very  difficult and I know kids who go in the morning expect her to be there they get a hug from her," said Mimi Osborne, a parent. "It's going to be very, very difficult."

Loudoun County will have a crisis resource team with counselors at the school when students return Monday morning.

A visitation will be held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Adams Green Funeral Home on Elden Street in Herndon.
