Locals to Watch: Carlson, Ovechkin Back to the Ice Sunday

LOCALS TO WATCH: John Carlson and Alex Ovechkin are headed back to the ice Sunday, but unlike Saturday's stunner that ended with a USA victory over Russia, this time the Washington Capitals teammates will be battling other countries instead of each other.

Carlson, along with the rest of Team USA, will go up against Slovenia. The Americans are expected to easily clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ovechkin and Team Russia will play Slovakia.

After Russia's loss, Ovi -- who paused in his retreat from the arena to talk to News4's Jim Handly -- remained reserved in his comments about Team USA.

"It was a great game," he said, "but unfortunately, we lost. It was a good effort by both teams. So I'm looking forward to play tomorrow."

"We'll bounce back," he added, efforting a smile.

A more upbeat Carlson said of his team's win: "It was great. Obviously, a great result, a tough game."

A home advantage may have inadvertently turned into a disadvantage for Russia, Carlson implied.

"I thought they played well too [but] I don't know if they were feeling too much pressure," he said. "Obviously, they're the home team; they've got everyone behind them here. We did a good job of taking that away as much as we could."

You can view both of Sunday's games live online at 7:30 a.m. ET: USA/Slovenia here and Russia/Slovakia here.

USA/Slovenia will also air on the NBC Sports Network at 7:30 a.m. (and again at 3 p.m.), and the Russia/Slovakia game will begin shortly thereafter on the USA Network.
