Student Struck, Killed by Bus on the James Madison University Campus

Driver not likely to be charged

A student from Fairfax, Va., was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg.

Jane Hwang, 18, was crossing a street just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a city bus at the intersection of Carrier Drive and Bluestone Drive. The bus was making a left turn and had the green signal when Hwang entered the crosswalk against a “do not walk” signal, police said. She died at the scene.

No one else was hurt.

Hwang had recently graduated from W.T. Woodson High school in Fairfax, Va., and was a freshman at JMU.

The accident is still under investigation, however, police said the bus driver had the green light and will probably not be charged.
