LOCAL FITNESS TRAINER IN VANCOUVER
Gaithersburg fitness trainer Mike Kohn is back in the driver's seat. He will guide a 650-pound bobsled and his teammates down an icy course that is approximately 4,921-feet long. The fastest time gets gold. Kohn, 37, co-owner of Philbin's Family Fitness and Athletic Training Center, learned three weeks ago that he would represent the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. METRO HISTORIC LOW RIDERSHIP
With government closures and white-out conditions that kept even the bravest area residents at home Feb. 10, Metro recorded its lowest number of trips ever. Just 36,097 trips were taken between the system's underground station's Wednesday, a staggering 634,500 fewer trips than were taken the previous Wednesday under normal service and weather conditions.

MAN STOLE FRONT LOADER, PLOWED DRIVEWAYS
Howard County police say a Columbia man stole a front loader and used it to clear snow from driveways. The Caterpillar skid steer loader was reported stolen sometime between Friday and Monday from a parking garage on U.S. 1 and Mission Road in Jessup. Police say the vehicle equipped with LoJack was traced to a home in Laurel where it was parked in the driveway on Tuesday. (wtop.com)

ICE BALL ARREST
D.C. police have charged a woman with hitting an officer in the face with an “iceball” during a large snowball fight.
Police spokesman Sgt. Nicholas Breul says officers were called to “a disorderly snowball fight” around 2 a.m. Wednesday near the Wonderland Ballroom at 11th and Kenyon streets northwest. (AP/Insidenova.com)

PARENTS IN SUPPORT OF ACCUSED COACH
A longtime youth coach charged with abducting and sexually abusing a minor has received support from parents who say he is incapable of such behavior. Sean Lanigan, 43, has been a full-time physical education teacher in Fairfax County since 1997 and has taught at Centre Ridge Elementary school in Centreville since 1998, according to Fairfax County Public Schools spokesman Paul Regnier.
