Local Aiports Ranked in Top 15

America’s top 27 airports were ranked by The Daily Beast and three local airports placed in the top 15.

"The Daily Beast evaluated airports for its best and worst list using eight criteria. Categories included on-time holiday departures, safety, amenities and tarmac nightmares," WTOP reported today.

The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), located in the District, was the highest rated local airport with a 10th place rating. In 2010 the airport had 83 percent on-time departures.

The next highest on the list was Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), which came in 13th and had the highest percentage of on-time holiday departures of all the local airports.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is two spots lower at 15. BWI had the lowest average security wait time of the three at six minutes.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) topped this year’s list after coming in third in 2009, while Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) came in last place.
