Loaded Gun Found in Maryland High School Student's Book Bag

A 15-year-old boy faces weapons charges after school administrators found a loaded handgun in his book bag Tuesday, according to Anne Arundel County police.

School officials questioned the Glen Burnie High School sophomore about why he had left campus after a school employee saw him returning to school about noon, police said. His answers prompted the search, which revealed a .22-caliber handgun with seven rounds.

The school resource officer immediately took possession of the gun and bag.

The boy did not show the weapon to anyone or threaten anyone, police said. No other students were involved.

Police are investigating why he brought the gun to school and how he got possession of the gun.

The boy was charged as a juvenile with weapons violations and will be placed at a juvenile facility in Prince George’s County.
