Forgiven Library Fines? Check It Out

DC libraries to forgive overdue fines

The D.C. Public Library hopes to get more people to walk through the doors by forgiving and forgetting overdue book fines.

Starting Monday, you can go to any D.C. public library branch and clear your record. The library will take back any overdue books you may still have. It also will clear your record even if you lost the book.

Children's books have never carried fines in an effort to make sure children always have access to books.

The amnesty also is good for overdue or lost CDs, DVDs and other library materials.

The amnesty runs through Feb. 5. The library said you can also stop by to update your account with a new email address, mailing address or phone number.
