ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A lawyer for an Annapolis alderman accused of inappropriately touching a Naval Academy midshipman said he thinks the Naval Criminal Investigative Service may have recorded a phone call between the men.
Alderman and mayoral candidate Samuel Shropshire is accused of touching a male midshipman's crotch in a car and charged with second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense. Shropshire denies the charges.
The midshipman tried to goad Shropshire into a confession, said Shropshire's attorney Gill Cochran. However, Cochran said he'd be pleased if the NCIS had recorded Shropshire because he professed his innocence.
A Naval Academy spokesman said he did not have details about what is done routinely in investigations. Annapolis police, who took over the case from NCIS, declined to comment.
