Latest on Verizon Landline Outages

No word on how many customers are affected

A number of people have been asking us for more information about Verizon landline outages since Friday's storms. And we wanted to know why crucial 911 call centers serviced by Verizon failed in parts of Virginia.

We put those questions to Verizon.

A Verizon spokesman told News4 on Sunday night that the company is focused on restoring service and working long hours with extra crews dealing with difficult conditions.

But there has been no word on just how many customers are affected or when Verizon phone outages will be fixed.

The spokesman said the 911 outage in Arlington was a "rare case" when its primary and backup power went out.

As of Sunday night, many of those emergency calls were getting through.
