A man who was shot by police in Southeast while holding a knife has died.
Police say that Albert Jermaine Payton, 24, of Southeast, died of his injuries at a local hospital. Payton was shot shortly before 6 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of Fourth Street, Southeast.
Police say that officers were called to the area after receiving a report of a threat to do bodily harm. They allege that Payton approached the responding officers while brandishing the knife, and refused orders to drop the weapon.
Both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave. An investigation is ongoing.
