And now, the 'You Need to Watch Where You're Going' award goes to: the pilot of a DC Spirit Cruise ship.
It seems that said pilot was trying to reposition the 160-foot, three-story Spirit vessel and, for some reason, backed up into the 72-foot John J. Glenn, Jr., a DC fire and rescue boat.
The pilot's mistake caused a 15-foot-long gash in the middle of the boat.
Ouch.
The Glenn, which is used for fire suppression, rescue and ice breaking on the upper Potomac River, was docked on the southwest side of the Fireboat Pier of Water Street at the time of the accident Saturday afternoon.
Four crew members were on the Spirit and three firefighters were on the Glenn. No passengers were aboard and no injuries were reported.
The vessel has been taken out of service until repairs are made.
