To be able to walk across the stage and receive your diploma, all while your parents are watching and cheering you on.
But what if your dad was walking across the stage right after you?
That was the case on Saturday at American University, where Glynnis Purcell and her dad Michael graduated together.
It’s the first time a father-daughter combo graduated together in the 118 year history of the school.
Glynnis received a bachelors in Theatre, while Michael got his Masters in Creative Writing.
“Going through that with my dad, to have that connection of we’re both in the same place is really cool to me, and it holds a special place to my heart,” said Glynnis.

Michael agreed, saying he is most excited about the possibility of working together in the future.
And it seems that could happen soon, as the two have talked about working on a play together.
