Inner Loop of Beltway Reopens at Rockville Pike After Tractor-Trailer Crash

All inner loop lanes of the Capital Beltway have reopened at Rockville Pike following a crash that kept all but one lane closed for most of Monday morning.

A tractor-trailer jackknifed on the roadway shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, taking out about 100 feet of guardrail and spilling fuel. Only the right lane was open for hours after the crash.

The tractor-trailer was carrying 8,000 to 9,000 pounds of meat when it hit a slick spot on what one highway worker called the most dangerous stretch of the Beltway. The vehicle skidded off to the side of the road, hitting the guardrail.

Crews had to drain fuel before attempting to move the tractor-trailer.

The lanes reopened shortly before 8:15 a.m.
