Indictment for Curtis Lopez, Accused of Killing Gaithersburg Mother and Child

Five grand jury charges

A grand jury in Montgomery County indicted 45-year-old Curtis Lopez on five charges related to the murders of a Gaithersburg child and his mother.

Lopez is accused in the killing of his estranged wife Jane McQuain, 51, who was found dead in her home on October 13.  He's also accused in the murder of her son, 11-year-old William McQuain, whose body was discovered in the woods near Clarksburg less than a week later.

Lopez faces charges for homicide, kidnapping, and robbery.  Police said after murdering Jane McQuain, Lopez took her Honda CRV and drove it to North Carolina.  Lopez loaned the vehicle to his girlfriend in Charlotte, who was involved in an automobile accident that eventually led to his capture.

The Montgomery County prosecutor's office said Lopez is tentatively scheduled for arraignment on January 6.
