Inaugural Do-Overs Continue: It's Aretha's Turn

Franklin records new version of inauguration song

DETROIT -- Inaugural do-overs seem to be all the rage.

First it was President Barack Obama and Chief Justice John Roberts taking another stab at the oath of office after fumbling through it on Inauguration Day.

Now, the Queen of Soul is following their lead.

Aretha Franklin has recorded a "preferred version" of "My Country 'Tis of Thee," the song she performed at Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration at the U.S. Capitol.

"It is my objective to always give people the very best, and I couldn't do that unfortunately in 19 degree weather in Washington at the swearing-in ceremony," Franklin said in a statement.

The single will be released this week and be available online through iTunes, Rhapsody and other outlets. There is no word on how much the single will cost to download.
