ISIS Poster Threatening New York Shows Picture of Washington National Cathedral

After online threats and images from the Islamic State featured the Washington National Cathedral, the National Cathedral School is planning to enhance security during the holidays.

The picture shows an armed militant figure in front of the church engulfed in flames. Despite choosing a landmark in D.C., the poster says “Wait for us. We meet at Christmas in New York soon."

With an increased presence of police officers, the Cathedral opened at 5:30 p.m. Friday for its Lessons and Carols service. Backpacks and oversized bags are not allowed inside.

Director of Security Andy Solberg said in a statement that the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has been monitoring the situation but has concluded that “there is currently no indication of an actual, planned attack.”

The threat comes a month after Sayfullo Saipov killed eight people on a bike path in lower Manhattan in the name of ISIS.

The school is asking to report any concerns or suspicions to PECF Police at 202-537-5667.
