WASHINGTON -- Hundreds of teachers and administrators at six academically troubled schools will have to reapply for their jobs, D.C. officials said Monday.
Dunbar and Anacostia high schools, the H.D. Woodson ninth-grade academy at Ron Brown Middle School, Hart and MacFarland middle schools, and Ferebee-Hope Elementary School have consistently failed to achieve adequate performance as mandated by the No Child Left Behind law. Hence the shakeup.
As many as 330 teachers and staff members will be affected. Those who choose not to reapply or are not rehired won't lose their jobs. Instead, they will be placed on an excess staff list and will be moved to different schools, schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee said.
