Human bones were found on a Fairfax County trail over the weekend, authorities say.
A Herndon resident found the bones next to a nature path in Difficult Run Stream Valley Park around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Fairfax County Police said.
The Office of the Medical Examiner determined the remains to be human, not animal, on Monday.
Authorities are trying to determine the identity of the deceased person and how long the remains had been in the park.
