Man Accused of Breaking Into Clinton Home, Setting Fire

A man accused of breaking into a home in Clinton, Maryland, and setting it on fire has been arrested, police announced on Twitter. 

Police said Wayne Gardiner, 33, of Clinton, broke into a home on the 7500 block of Surratts Road just after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told police they saw the suspect removing items from the home, including a shotgun. 

Gardiner set the home of fire before running into a nearby wood line, police said at a news conference. The fire was small 

Police said the man who lives in the home was safe. Police said there's no known relationship between Gardiner and the homeowner. 

Residents in the area of Surratts Road and Moores Lane were asked to shelter in place while police searched for the suspect. 

Gardiner was arrested about 10:20 a.m., police said on Twitter.
