Two Virginia teenagers who were taken to the hospital after using a vape pen in school, and a third teen was arrested.

The three Fauquier High School students involved are minors.

The two students who went to the hospital told police the person with the vape pen bullied them into using it and never mentioned it was filled with THC oil, not nicotine.

“Initial reports were that the two students affected that were transported to the hospital had been coerced into using the substance, however that’s still under investigation,” said James Hartman of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.

The students have been released from the hospital and are OK.

Fauquier County Public Schools said they have a plan in place that starts by educating students on how to talk to their peers about vaping.

“Students are going to listen to students before they listen to adults,” Fauquier County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Frank Finn said.

Finn said students recently went on a leadership seminar to learn more about the dangers of vaping then presented to their peers, trying to make students aware that vaping is a health risk.

“And they also did a presentation to staff to make staff aware of what vaping devices look like, what Juuls were about, something that at the time staff had very little awareness about,” Finn said.

Authorities said this incident should remind people not to trust what’s in vape oil found on the street.

Fauquier County Public Schools is hosting a community dialogue Nov. 13 on substance abuse and vaping.
