Historically Black Md. Colleges Get Federal Grants

Maryland's four historically black colleges and universities are being awarded more than $12.2 million in federal money.

Democratic Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin announced the funding Monday for Coppin State University, Morgan State University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Bowie State University. It is aimed at strengthening academic resources, management capabilities and infrastructure.

The federal grants include more than $3.8 million for Morgan State University; more than $3 million for Bowie State; more than $2.7 million for Coppin State; and more than $2.5 for University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
