A group that advocates for voting representation in Congress for D.C. residents wants President Barack Obama to mention their cause in his State of the Union address.
The group, D.C. Vote, is asking for suggestions -- no more than three sentences -- about what Obama should say to support D.C. voting rights during the speech. The District currently elects a representative to Congress, but Eleanor Holmes Norton cannot vote on the House floor.
A bill to give the city of some 600,000 people a vote is currently stalled after an amendment was added that would repeal the city's strict gun registration requirements.
D.C. Vote wants suggested language e-mailed or posted to their Facebook page by Jan. 11. The date of the State of the Union address has not yet been set.
