Health Department Expected to Announce Medical Marijuana Cultivation Centers

Hydroponic superstore opens Friday

We should find out tomorrow where medical marijuana will be grown in the District.

The Department of Health said it will announce which cultivation center applicants got permits, but the controversial industry is already bringing new business to the Ward 5 area, where most of the applicants want to set up.

The weGrow store on Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast is busy prepping for its own big opening tomorrow. The store will provide supplies, like lights and food, for anyone who wants to grow indoor plants.

It will also offer consulting services for medical marijuana growers.

“The goal is really also to educate these cultivators to make sure that they’re producing a high-quality medicine for the District of Columbia patients, because what we’re seeing in areas where there’s not a lot of education and resources available, the medical cannabis being grown is not very safe,” weGrow founder Dhar Mann said.

The weGrow store will not sell marijuana plants or marijuana seeds.

It's the third store of its kind to open in the U.S.
