Harrisonburg Police Target ‘Cut-Throughs'

Harrisonburg police are on the lookout for drivers who cut through parking lots or other property to evade traffic control devices.

Officers are stepping up enforcement of a state law that prohibits leaving the road to evade stoplights and stop and yield signs. Violators will be issued citations.

City spokeswoman Mary Hope-Vass tells The Daily News-Record that evading traffic control devices is considered aggressive driving.

She says the practice creates a safety hazard for pedestrians and other motorists.
