A jury found 26-year-old Javon Martin guilty of first-degree murder and robbery in the robbing and stabbing of Carl Diener in December 2009.
The jury recommended a sentence of 20 years for the murder and seven years for the robbery.
The judge has final say on the sentence, which can be reduced but not increased.
A date for the sentencing has not been set.
