Guilty Verdict Tossed in Elderly Woman Beating Case

The D.C. Court of Appeals tossed out the conviction of a man accused of beating up and robbing an 83-year-old woman.

Surveillance video showed the beating near the Foggy Bottom Metro station in May 2005.

James Dorsey confessed to the crime more than six years ago but later recanted his confession, saying it came after he'd asked for a lawyer.

The appeals court agreed with Dorsey's appeal.

Prosecutors have not decided yet whether they will retry the case.

He remains held pending further court proceedings, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
