Graveside Service to Be Held for Abandoned Newborn

Workers found infant in plastic bag in Takoma Park

TAKOMA PARK, Md. -- Prince George's County police will conduct a graveside service for a newborn abandoned in a plastic trash bag in Takoma Park last month.

The service for the child, Maria Del Pilar, will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton. Local merchants have donated services and items for the service and burial.

Workers clearing a field in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue found the newborn in a plastic bag on Oct. 12 and called police, authorities said. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Wendy Yanette Villatoro, 25, of Takoma Park, the infant's mother, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death.
