Grade Cheating Investigation Widens at Local High School

Police and Montgomery County state's attorney now involved

Police and the Montgomery County state's attorney are now involved in the grade changing scandal at Churchill High School in Potomac, Md.

Eight students obtained teacher's IDs and passwords and used the information to change grades in the computer grading system, officials said.

On Wednesday, a letter went home to students' parents, notifying them about the investigation.

A total of 54 students were involved, but it's not clear how many of the students involved actually knew their grades were changed, school administrators said.

In all cases, the original grades have been restored and, when necessary, corrected reported cards have been issued, according to the school.

Three of the alleged ringleaders have already left the school, according to the Washington Post.

Churchill's principal scheduled a community meeting for Monday night to answer questions from parents, students and teachers.
