Go Bananas! Quirky Diet Promises Weight Loss

Diet promises no exercise for pounds to melt away

People everywhere are going bananas for a new weight loss craze. It's started in Japan and is now catching on in the United States, and it's called the Banana Diet.

The diet works like this -- eat fresh bananas for breakfast with a glass of water at room temperature. Then have whatever you want for lunch and dinner.

Sounds easy right? But there are just a few more rules. You cannot eat desserts or snacks. No eating after 8 p.m., and you must be in bed before midnight.

Then just watch the pounds come off, without exercise.

But does it really work?

Lisa Drayer, author of “The Beauty Diet,” says it may work at first because bananas are high in fiber and vitamins and low in calories. She said the fruit is also a good substitute for sugary cereals or bagels and cream cheese for breakfast.

But, Drayer warned there is no such thing as a magic diet, and no substitute for eating right (which means a low-calorie diet) and exercising.
