Get Paid to Help Ease BRAC Traffic

Pilot program will pay for carpooling

People driving to BRAC government facilities could get paid for their commute.

A new pilot program would benefit those heading to Fort Belvoir, Quantico, Mark Center and Arlington Hall.

According to InsideNoVa, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission is working with the company called Avego.

Under the program, InsideNoVa reports drivers would get $25 worth of a gas month. Passengers would get to carpool five times for free, then pay drivers $1 per pickup then 20 cents per mile.

Officials hope to recruit one-thousand riders and 500 drivers for a six-month pilot program.

The program will only be available to Department of Defense employees or contractors.  The goal is to take more cars off the road and relieve congestion around the facilities.
