Gansler Opposes Developments on UM Golf Course

Gubernatorial candidate Doug Gansler is opposing development on part of the University of Maryland Golf Course, because he says it would pave what now serves as the community's main green space, recreational amenity and environmental habitat.

Gansler and his running mate, Jolene Ivey, on Tuesday joined other opponents of proposed plans to develop retail shops and housing on part of the golf course.

Gansler says there are alternative options that serve the needs of the university and preserve the needs of the community and environment. He also says plans have been in place for years to redevelop the Route 1 corridor, and progress has been made to breathe new life into the area.

Gansler is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.
