WASHINGTON -- Police are investigating after a student was found dead in a George Washington University dorm room Friday morning.
Sophomore Laura Treanor, 19, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., was found dead in a room at the Ivory Tower dorms, according to a report in the GW Hatchet newspaper.
The Hatchet cites university spokesperson Tracy Schario, who said that Treanor lived in a quad-room at the dorm and was discovered unconscious by her roommate around 8:30 a.m.
Sgt. Kenny Bryson, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department, added that a team of detectives that handles natural deaths was called to the scene, and that Treanor's death is not believed to be a homicide or suicide. Based upon a preliminary investigation, there appears to be no signs of trauma.
Treanor worked for the Hatchet as a contributing editor for the paper's Life section.
An alert was issued to the campus community moments after the incident was reported.
The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the D.C. medical examiner.
