Four Swine Flu Cases Confirmed in District

Health department adds sixth probable case as well

There are three more confirmed cases of swine flu in Washington, the District's Department of Health said Saturday.  That brings the total number of confirmed cases in D.C. to four.

Officials say the three cases confirmed on Friday are all students at George Washington University. They have fully recovered and did not need to be hospitalized.

There are six probable cases of H1N1 in Washington and those cases have also either fully recovered or are recovering at home, according to the DOH's press release.

Meanwhile, there are currently 23 confirmed cases of swine flu in Maryland and the state is investigating two more probably cases, state health officials said.  The most recent patient is an adult in Cecil County, bringing to seven the number of counties that have confirmed cases of the illness.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene also said the state public health laboratory has been approved to perform the tests that confirm swine flu.

In Virginia, health officials have confirmed a total to 16 cases of the virus, 11 of which are in Central Shenandoah. The Arlington health district also confirmed its first case.

Other previously confirmed cases also include one in Norfolk, two in Chesterfield and one in the Three Rivers district, which includes the Northern Neck and the Middle Peninsula.

The Virginia Department of Health began posting the swine flu count on its Web site Thursday.
