A former police captain is facing sex offense charges after he was accused of inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl.
Fairfax County Police say Joseph Patrick Gamerl, 53, was arrested Friday after an investigation that began May 9, when the girl told a family member that Gamerl had touched her inappropriately.
Gamerl now lives in Fairfax, Virginia, but NBC Miami confirmed he used to be a police captain in North Miami Beach. He retired about three and a half years ago.
Gamerl has been charged with aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a child.
Detectives would like to speak with anyone who has information that may help in the investigation or who may have had a similar encounter with Gamerl.
