A former music teacher from Annandale, Virginia, who was accused of sexually abusing former students was found dead on Wednesday, police said.

Jeffrey Cummins, 56, was charged in April with eight felony counts of indecent liberties by a custodian for allegedly sexually abusing two former students.

Cummins was a private music teacher and gave lessons in his home in Annandale. He taught for 39 years and received tributes from students, awards and honors.

He was also the owner of two Huntington Learning Center locations in Tysons and Springfield.

Police said the investigation showed that the sexual abuse occurred both during music lessons and at other times when the juveniles were at his home.

Four more victims came forward to detectives and said Cummins sexually abused them between 1987 to 2017, Fairfax County police said.

Nine additional felony warrants were obtained for Cummins and arrangements were made through Cummins' attorney for him to turn himself in on Tuesday, but he never arrived, according to police.

On Wednesday, Cummins’s body was discovered near Warsaw, Virginia. Police said no foul play is suspected.

The Virginia State Police are investigating his death and the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond will complete an autopsy.
