A former high school coach was caught with sexually explicit images of a minor on his cell phone, police said. According to investigators, the 40-year-old man had been trading racy images with a juvenile student.
Brian Timothy Funk, of Pasadena, Md., was arrested and charged with one count of child pornography and one count of displaying obscene items to a minor.
Funk was listed as the 2010-2011 Coach of the Year on the Archbishop Spalding High School website. According to the site, he was head coach of the girl's indoor track team.
Authorities received a report that Funk had been seen going to the movies with a female juvenile student.
After an investigation, detectives found that the former coach had been sending x-rated images to the minor via cell phone, and had received similar messages back.
Funk surrendered himself to police on September 25.
